Countdown to Superbowl – Cereal Candy a.k.a “Crack”

This is a recipe that was passed down from my husband’s grandmother. We nicknamed it “crack” because we always have to make several batches at almost all of the family gatherings… once you start eating it,  you cannot stop.  It is sooo addicting.

Ingredients:

1 cup light or dark corn syrup –  I have made it with both and it really doesn’t affect the flavor much either way.  This time, I used half and half because that is what I had.

1 cup granulated sugar

1 cup peanut butter – I use creamy, but crunchy is also good because you get the little chunks of peanuts.

10-12 cups unsweetened cereal (ie. Cheerios, Chex, Raisin Bran, Rice Krispies, Corn Flakes, etc.)

Add nuts or raisins too if you like ’em.

Directions:

Measure cereal and set aside in large mixing bowl.

Mix sugar and corn syrup in medium non-stick saucepan over med-high heat to boiling.

Remove from heat and add peanut butter. Stir until evenly incorporated.

Pour over cereal immediately. Use a large wooden spoon to fold the sauce into the cereal. Spread onto foil or parchment paper to cool.
